Could SMB ever be implemented for music?

No idea how actually possible this is, but could SMB/Samba support ever be added to PSBBN? According to my chats with clankers it's possible that streaming FLAC, mp3, and even opus audio could work on PS2 hardware if someone with the knowledge took the time to develop this.

Not with SMB, but possible with the newer UDPBD standard. The main issue would be updating the Game Collection to display them. It can't be done dynamically. If would involve creating a list of the games on your server, connecting the PS2 drive to your PC, and running the game installer. That whole process would be necessary every time you add games to your server, offering no benefit over installing them locally.

If you want to stream your games from a network share, you'll be better off using NHDDL which can easily be launched from PSBBN or at startup.

Not possible within PSBBN. The PSBBN music player does not support streaming music. It's closed source so cannot be modified. If you want to be able to stream music, someone would have to create a separate homebrew app that is capable of that.
