Question: How to start the new Octobot version on local PC by cloning code

I have followed the instructions on documentation on how start Octobot manually cloning the git code in my PC but allways got ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'octobot_commons'.

At the commit message you explain that now Octobot is monorepo, so I supposed that is no necessary to install by pip, can you let us know how to make work in the new working schema?

Right, the developper env changed since the latest release and guides have not been updated yet, we will update them soon.

In short, everything that was previously split into the OctoBot-XXX repositories is now in OctoBot/packages.
To start from python and git, you know want to add all packages in OctoBot/packages to your PYTHONPATH.

For a vscode setup, the settings.json should include this (this is with windows path separators, you might want to adapt it on unix):

"PYTHONPATH": "${workspaceFolder}\\OctoBot\\packages\\async_channel;${workspaceFolder}\\OctoBot\\packages\\tentacles_manager;${workspaceFolder}\\OctoBot\\packages\\commons;${workspaceFolder}\\OctoBot\\packages\\trading;${workspaceFolder}\\OctoBot\\packages\\backtesting;${workspaceFolder}\\OctoBot\\packages\\evaluators;${workspaceFolder}\\OctoBot\\packages\\services;${workspaceFolder}\\OctoBot\\packages\\trading_backend;${workspaceFolder}\\OctoBot\\packages\\node;${workspaceFolder}\\OctoBot\\packages\\trading_backend;${workspaceFolder}\\OctoBot\\packages\\agents;${workspaceFolder}\\OctoBot\\packages\\flow;${workspaceFolder}\\OctoBot\\packages\\sync"

What I found out, that it switched to pants. Once you installed pants you can start it with:

pants run //:start --run-args="tentacles --install --all"
pants run //:start

This works 80%. The templates are not found in the pex-build.

I got the same behaviour building a package

pants package :OctoBot
pip install dist/octobot-2.1.0.tar.gz

Maybe someone with more knowledge of the app can tell if this is the official and recommended way 😉

I have created .env file at project root with

at VSCode Terminal
export $(grep -v '^#' .env | xargs)  

and voula!! works
