Does sops not support .env files?

Why do you assume it does not support .env files, when the docs state it does and provides examples? If you have a specific problem, you have to provide more information.

The very first sentence of the documentation says:

SOPS is an editor of encrypted files that supports YAML, JSON, ENV, INI and BINARY formats [...]

might want to add the srtring ".env" i didn't find it when doing ctrl=f
